Making sustainable leather prioritizes ethical and environmental protocols from sourcing to production to stitching, until the product reaches the market.
Our manufacturers
Source Sustainable full-grain leather ensuring that animal welfare and biodiversity are valued. The leather is a byproduct of the meat industry already in place, no part of the animal goes to waste.
In our production process we use non-toxic tanning. Our sustainable leather backpacks are free of the toxic chemicals that conventional tanning methods use to stabilize the leather. These chemicals pose health and environmental risks to workers, consumers and the planet. The technology we use ensures that our leathers are Chrome VI free and Azo free.
Our artisans use the leather to craft goods with meticulous attention to details. After the sustainable tanneries process the leather, our skilled artisans work on our backpacks in a clean, safe environment in exchange for fair pay. This overcomes the practice used in many traditional sewing factories, where workers often endure unsafe conditions, low wages and long hours.
We comply with the strictest safety regulations and that’s how we meet the California Proposition 65 (Prop 65) requirements, which regulates over 800 chemicals and heavy metals in consumer products sold in California, including leather goods such as backpacks and bags.
